SFTP / FTPS integration for Rig
The easiest way to connect SFTP / FTPS to Claude and other AI tools
SFTP and FTPS are secure file transfer protocols that partners and finance systems use to drop scheduled exports on a server.
What Rig syncs from SFTP / FTPS
Once connected, Rig models these objects so questions resolve to the right tables and joins:
- Delimited text files
- Excel files with a column for each sheet
- Parquet files
- JSONL files
- Fixed-width text files
How SFTP / FTPS connects to Rig
Rig Ingest signs in to your server with a password or a private key, finds files that match a pattern and loads their rows into one table. It reads only new or changed files, and it can move loaded files to an archive folder you choose.
Read the step-by-step SFTP / FTPS setup guideLand a partner's nightly export
Partners often leave a file on a server each night. Rig loads each new file into one table, so you can query the feed without writing a pipeline.
- How many rows arrived in last night's file?
- Show the feed's totals by day
- Which days are missing a file?
Read exports from older finance systems
Finance systems often write fixed-width text in an older encoding such as cp1252. Rig reads the layout you give it and converts the text, so ledger extracts arrive as clean columns.
- Show ledger amounts by account and period
- Which accounts changed between the last two extracts?
- Total the extract by period
Replace a row when a file is corrected
When a partner re-sends a corrected file under the same name, Rig replaces that file's earlier rows instead of adding them twice, so totals stay right.
- Which files were re-sent this month?
- Compare the corrected file's totals with the first version
- How many rows does each file hold?
Ask your SFTP / FTPS data in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor
Rig serves your SFTP / FTPS data to AI assistants over MCP. Once SFTP / FTPS is synced into your warehouse, you can ask questions in plain English from the tool you already use, and every answer is backed by validated, governed SQL.
Frequently asked questions
- Which protocols and file types does Rig support?
- SFTP with a password or private key, and FTPS with a password. Files can be CSV or TSV, Excel, Parquet, JSONL or fixed-width text.
- Does Rig change files on my server?
- Not unless you set an archive folder. By default Rig only reads. With an archive folder, loaded files move there on the sync after they load.
- What if the server restricts which addresses can connect?
- Rig connects from a fixed address in each region, so you can allow it on your firewall. Contact Rig for the address for your region.
- How often does the data refresh?
- Rig Ingest syncs on a schedule you set and reads only files that are new or changed.
