    Datadog integration for Rig

The easiest way to connect Datadog to Claude and other AI tools

Datadog is a monitoring and observability platform, and its Service Level Objectives set reliability targets for services.

    What Rig syncs from Datadog

Once connected, Rig models these objects so questions resolve to the right tables and joins:

    • SLO definitions
    • SLO tags
    • Daily SLI history
    • Metric SLO numerators and denominators
    • Monitor SLO state changes

    How Datadog connects to Rig

Rig Ingest uses a Datadog API key and application key to sync your SLO definitions and daily history into your warehouse on a schedule. Each run re-reads the trailing window and merges it, so older days stay in the warehouse.

Read the step-by-step Datadog setup guide

    Track reliability against each objective

A Service Level Objective is a target for a service level indicator over a time window. Rig loads each SLO with its daily overall SLI and state, so you can see which objectives are meeting target and how they trend.

    Ask Rig
    • Which SLOs are below target today?
    • Show the daily SLI for each SLO over the last 30 days
    • How many SLOs changed state this week?

    Spot SLOs that keep missing

An objective that dips often is a better signal than a single bad day. Rig keeps the history for each SLO, so you can count days below target and rank the services that miss most.

    Ask Rig
    • Which SLOs missed target on the most days this quarter?
    • Rank SLOs by lowest average SLI over 90 days
    • Show SLOs that were healthy last month and are failing now

Organise objectives by team and service

Tags on an SLO usually name its team, service or tier. Rig loads the tags with the definitions, so you can group reliability by owner and see where coverage is thin.

    Ask Rig
    • Show SLO attainment grouped by team tag
    • Which SLOs carry a service tag, and what is their latest SLI?
    • List SLOs by tier tag with their latest SLI

Ask your Datadog data in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

Rig serves your Datadog data to AI assistants over MCP. Once Datadog is synced into your warehouse, you can ask questions in plain English from the tool you already use, and every answer is backed by validated, governed SQL.

    Frequently asked questions

What Datadog data does Rig sync?
Service Level Objective definitions with their tags, and daily SLI history for each objective. Other Datadog data, such as metrics, logs and monitors, is not part of this connector.
How far back does the history go?
Each run re-reads up to the trailing 90 days. The first run also reads earlier 90-day windows, so history reaches back about a year.
What does Rig need in Datadog?
An API key, and an application key owned by a user or service account that holds the slos_read permission. You also choose your Datadog site, such as datadoghq.eu.
Can I query Datadog SLOs in Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes. Once the SLOs are in your warehouse, Rig serves them to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other AI tools over MCP.
