Connect Sprout Social to Rig

Sync your Sprout Social posts, inbox messages and daily profile analytics into Rig, along with profiles, groups, users and tags. Sprout connects with an API token, and API access needs its Advanced or Enterprise plan.

    Before you start

    • Your Sprout account must be on the Advanced plan or above. Sprout's support article says API access is included from Advanced.
    • Creating a token needs the API Permissions entitlement. An Account Owner can grant it.

Step 1: Generate a Sprout API token

    1. In Sprout, click your name in the bottom left corner and open Account and settings.
    2. Under Global Features, select API.
    3. In the API Token Management section, click Generate API Token.
    4. Copy the token and store it securely.

    No API option
If you do not see API under Global Features, your plan or your user permissions do not include it. Ask your Account Owner.

Step 2: Connect it in Rig

Adding a source needs a workspace owner, or a role with the Manage connections permission, on a workspace where you manage your own connections. If the Connectors tab says “Data ingestion for this workspace is managed by Rig”, ask an owner or Rig support to add the source.

    1. In Rig, open Connections, choose the Connectors tab and go to Sources & actions.
    2. Search for Sprout Social, open the card and click Connect.
    3. Sprout API token: paste the token you generated.
    4. Days of history on first sync (optional): pre-filled with 0, which pulls full history. Enter a number such as 90 to pull only that many days of posts and messages on the first sync.
    5. Click Continue. Rig checks the credentials and lists the streams it can reach, so choose the ones you want and click Connect.
    6. The source then syncs on its schedule, which is nightly unless you change it. To load data straight away, click Sync on its row; Test pulls a small sample first if you want to check the connection.

    What Rig pulls in

Sprout Social lands in its own sprout_social schema in your warehouse:

    • Metadata: your account (client), profiles, groups, users and tags.
    • Posts: published posts with lifetime engagement metrics.
    • Profile analytics: daily snapshots for each profile, such as followers and impressions.
    • Messages: inbound and outbound social messages, with tags, sender and Sprout action timings.

    Good to know

    • Sprout tokens have no fixed expiry. Sprout recommends regenerating them now and then, and straight away if one may be exposed.
    • Sprout refuses a whole request if it names a metric your account is not licensed for, such as Premium Analytics metrics. Rig asks for the full documented set and lets Sprout drop the ones you lack, so some metric columns may be empty.
    • Rig re-reads posts and messages that are behind the sync date, because lifetime metrics keep growing and messages are tagged after they arrive.
    • To disconnect Sprout Social, click the bin icon on the source's row under Sources & actions. Only whoever connected the source or a workspace owner can do this, and data already synced stays in the warehouse.

    What people use this for
