Connect Light to Rig

Light is an accounting platform with a general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, expenses and cards. Rig syncs the ledger and its subledgers into your warehouse, so finance questions can run across every entity and document. Light connects with an API key.

    Before you start

    • You need permission in Light to create API keys.
    • Decide which areas of the ledger Rig should read. The key can do exactly what its roles allow, so give it read access to each area you want synced.

Step 1: Create a Light API key

    1. Sign in to Light and click the gear icon for Settings.
    2. Go to API keys and click Create key.
    3. Choose the roles for the key. Give it the narrowest roles that still read every area you want in the warehouse.
    4. Copy the key straight away. Light shows it once.

    IP allowlist
Light can restrict a key to an IP allowlist. Leave the allowlist empty for Rig, or contact us for the addresses to add.

Step 2: Connect it in Rig

Adding a source needs a workspace owner, or a role with the Manage connections permission, on a workspace where you manage your own connections. If the Connectors tab says “Data ingestion for this workspace is managed by Rig”, ask an owner or Rig support to add the source.

    1. In Rig, open Connections, choose the Connectors tab and go to Sources & actions.
    2. Search for Light (accounting / AP), open the card and click Connect.
    3. API key: Paste the key you copied.
    4. API base URL (optional): Leave it blank. It defaults to https://api.light.inc, and only a sandbox or regional host needs a different value.
    5. Click Continue. Rig checks the credentials and lists the streams it can reach, so choose the ones you want and click Connect.
    6. The source then syncs on its schedule, which is nightly unless you change it. To load data straight away, click Sync on its row; Test pulls a small sample first if you want to check the connection.

    What Rig pulls in

Light lands in its own light schema in your warehouse:

    • Company structure: entities, users, vendors, customers, products, ledger accounts and custom property groups.
    • General ledger: accounting documents and ledger transaction lines.
    • Payables and receivables: invoice payables, credit notes, purchase orders, invoice receivables, customer credits and contracts.
    • Spend: expenses, cards, card balance accounts and card transactions.
    • Banking: bank accounts and bank transactions.

Document and PDF files, attachments, e-invoice payloads, custom property values and exchange-rate data are not synced.

    Good to know

    • Light allows 300 requests a minute per user and 100,000 a day per organisation by default, so a large first load can take a while.
    • Most streams re-sync records when they are edited. A few load by creation date only, so a later edit to an old record in those streams is not picked up. Contracts and purchase orders are small and re-read in full each sync.
    • Light does not send webhooks, so Rig reads on its schedule.
    • Bank transactions are read one bank account at a time.
    • To disconnect Light, click the bin icon on the source's row under Sources & actions. Only whoever connected the source or a workspace owner can do this, and data already synced stays in the warehouse.

    What people use this for

    • Query the ledger without exporting it
    • Watch payables and cash position together
    • Join finance to operations
