Connect Airtable to Rig

Rig syncs the records of one Airtable table into your warehouse as rows. Airtable's record API works per table, so you add a connection for each table you want.

    Before you start

    • You need an Airtable account with access to the base and table you want to sync.
    • Have the base ID ready. It starts with app.

Step 1: Create an Airtable personal access token

    1. Open airtable.com/create/tokens and click Create new token.
    2. Name the token. Airtable shows this name in record revision history.
    3. Add the scope data.records:read.
    4. Click add a base and choose the base that holds your table.
    5. Create the token and copy it. Airtable shows it once.

    Read access only
Airtable personal tokens act as your own account, limited to the scopes and bases you grant. Rig only needs to read records.

Step 2: Connect it in Rig

Adding a source needs a workspace owner, or a role with the Manage connections permission, on a workspace where you manage your own connections. If the Connectors tab says “Data ingestion for this workspace is managed by Rig”, ask an owner or Rig support to add the source.

    1. In Rig, open Connections, choose the Connectors tab and go to Sources & actions.
    2. Search for Airtable, open the card and click Connect.
    3. Airtable access token: The personal access token you created.
    4. Base ID: The ID of your base, starting with app. Airtable lists it in the API documentation for your base.
    5. Table ID or name: Either the table's tbl ID or its display name.
    6. Click Continue. Rig checks the credentials and lists the streams it can reach, so choose the ones you want and click Connect.
    7. The source then syncs on its schedule, which is nightly unless you change it. To load data straight away, click Sync on its row; Test pulls a small sample first if you want to check the connection.

    What Rig pulls in

Airtable lands in its own airtable schema in your warehouse:

    • Records: Every record in the table you chose, with its field values as columns.

To sync a second table, add another Airtable connection with the same token and that table's name or ID.

    Good to know

    • Each connection covers one table, so a base with five tables you care about needs five connections.
    • Tokens only reach the bases you added when creating them. Edit the token's detail page in Airtable if you add a base later.
    • If you regenerate the token in Airtable, the old one stops working and you must paste the new one into the connection.
    • To disconnect Airtable, click the bin icon on the source's row under Sources & actions. Only whoever connected the source or a workspace owner can do this, and data already synced stays in the warehouse.

    What people use this for

    • Join hand-maintained data to systems data
    • Report on processes that live in Airtable
    • Find where the source of truth has drifted
