# Connect ClickUp to Rig

Rig syncs your ClickUp workspace hierarchy, tasks with their custom field values, task comments, goals and your own time entries into your warehouse. You connect with a personal API token.

## Before you start

- The token inherits its owner's visibility, so use an account that can see every space you want synced.
- Time entries cover only the token owner. Other members' timesheets are not synced.

## Step 1: Generate a ClickUp API token

1. Sign in to ClickUp and click your avatar in the upper-right corner.
2. Choose **Settings**, then **Apps** in the sidebar.
3. Under **API Token**, click **Generate** (or **Regenerate**).
4. Click **Copy**. The token starts with `pk_`.

## Step 2: Connect it in Rig

New to Rig? Watch how to find Connections

Adding a source needs a workspace owner, or a role with the Manage connections permission, on a workspace where you manage your own connections. If the Connectors tab says “Data ingestion for this workspace is managed by Rig”, ask an owner or Rig support to add the source.

1. In Rig, open `Connections`, choose the `Connectors` tab and go to `Sources & actions`.
2. Search for **ClickUp**, open the card and click `Connect`.
3. **API token**: The personal token you copied, starting with `pk_`.
4. Click `Continue`. Rig checks the credentials and lists the streams it can reach, so choose the ones you want and click `Connect`.
5. The source then syncs on its schedule, which is nightly unless you change it. To load data straight away, click `Sync` on its row; `Test` pulls a small sample first if you want to check the connection.

## What Rig pulls in

ClickUp lands in its own `clickup` schema in your warehouse:

- **Workspaces and members**: Each workspace the token can see, with its members.
- **Spaces, folders and lists**: The full hierarchy, including lists that sit directly in a space.
- **Tasks**: Every task, closed and subtasks included, with assignees, statuses, tags, checklists and custom field values.
- **Task comments**: The 25 most recent comments on each task.
- **Custom fields and tags**: Custom field definitions for lists and the tags in each space.
- **Goals**: Goals and the goals in goal folders.
- **Time entries**: The token owner's own time entries.

## Good to know

- ClickUp expects the token as it is, with no Bearer prefix, and Rig handles that for you.
- Time entries are re-read in full on each sync, so backdated and edited entries stay correct.
- Tasks sync incrementally on one checkpoint shared across workspaces. A workspace added to the token later needs a full re-sync to load its history.
- To disconnect ClickUp, click the bin icon on the source's row under `Sources & actions`. Only whoever connected the source or a workspace owner can do this, and data already synced stays in the warehouse.

## What people use this for

- Measure task throughput and cycle time
- Balance workload across assignees
- Track goals and delivery against plan
- Review time spent
